Under
the structure of DOI CHAANG Coffee Company our farmers enjoy a carried
position in what is essentially an equal partnership.
First, the farmers are paid in excess of the price
recommended by the Fair Trade organization for their green beans. The farmers
also keep 100% of the proceeds from the sale of their green beans.
Second, in appreciation of
the value of their contribution to the venture and the desire to improve the
Thai farmers' living standards, the DOI CHAANG Coffee Company "gifted"
the Thai farmers a 50% registered ownership. This means that 50% of the profits
are returned to the Thai farmers. The community retains this premium enabling
them to decide on their own social projects. The Akhha tribes people regard
this coffee as their gateway to long term sustainability and as a means to
achieve a secure future for their families and their livelihoods.
Only the
superior beans grown at Doi Chang will be sold under the name DOI CHAANG.
The rest of the beans will be sold directly by the Thai farmers to
international buyers. These sales are for the sole benefit of the farmer.
